A Short Story of OCD

Abby, the founder of OCD Global, is a former OCD sufferer just like many of you are today. As with many OCD beginnings, Abby, had a thought, then another, then a thought about that thought and so on and so forth, until she was completely overcome by thoughts. What made matters worse, she could not find an answer, no matter how many times she played these thoughts over in her mind or looked for certainty, Abby could not find a definitive answer. This made her anxious. And the only solution he found to momentarily squash the anxiety, was to perform compulsions and rituals.

How OCD Global was formed

Abby spent thousands on therapy, receiving the advice and techniques that she needed to truly understand and overcome her OCD.  Finally reaching a stage where she could manage her OCD without therapy, she began to think of the millions of people in the same position as her,
without the means to get the help they truly needed. This is where the idea of OCD group support was formed. She is an OCD grassroots  advocate at IOCDF (International OCD Foundation). Abby engages in helping people with OCD via support group to spread knowledge, research and advocacy with the goal of improving access to care and OCD treatment to make a difference in the lives of those with OCD. She’s devoted his life to reducing stigma around OCD and mental health, to education, and to supporting the OCD community. You can see Abby every week moderating a virtual OCD support group. Advocacy means standing up for yourself and others.  It means  sharing yourself, being vulnerable and strong at the same time. OCD impacts not just your life but those who care about you. I wanted to help others help them by being vulnerable and strong at the same time. Speaking out keeps you grounded, keeps you on a path outside of yourself with strength, Share vulnerable pieces of yourself  and be strong. She has been treated and trained by Steven Philipson and Patrick McGrath who are experts in OCD treatment in the US.
